Kate

If you asked Kate, this was a two for one deal in breaking in newbies to the world of the hunter. And, finally, Allison didn't have to be kept in the dark by her parents anymore.

Better safe than sorry, you know.

"Not too far now," she assured them.

Allison

"What is this place?" Allison asked, giving Clint a nervous look the less Kate told her about what the hell was going on.

Clint

"Your guess is as good as mine. It's a surprise," Clint said, giving Allison - not Kate, because Kate was the aunt and geez Fandom made this weird - a smile to try to make her less nervous. "A good one, I'm sure."

Kate

Kate gave him a wink, stopping at a sturdy metal door. She knew there was a reason besides those arms that she gave you a call, Clint.

"Let's start with the basics," she said. "You know how some families have secrets? Well, ours are a little different."

Then shoved the door open to reveal a dark room.

Allison

Allison shot Clint another look before walking in. If this was some stupid prank, she was never going to forgive her Aunt.

"What do you mean by secrets?"

Derek

When the lights were hit, they revealed one Derek, chained up to a rack, some sort of wires taped down on his stomach and the hum of electricity in the air.

His eyes glowed blue as he snarled at the little group Kate brought in for gawking. They wanted an animal, he'd give them an animal.

Clint

Clint had assumed that whatever Kate called him for would have something to do with Derek, but he hadn't been expecting a setup quite like this, and he almost felt bad until he saw the look on Derek's face. "See? Good surprise," he said, sounding a little more confident about that than he might have felt.

He wondered if Kitty would kill him for leaving spring break for this.

Allison

"What are you doing to him?" Allison asked, taking a step back. "Is that going to kill him?"

Kate

Kate clucked her tongue, reaching over to where the wires plugged in to turn a dial. The whine of electricity grew louder and her smile grew wider. "Oh, come on, kiddo. Don't get all ethical on me now."

Derek

Derek surged forward against the chains before slumped back again weakly. It was starting to get a little difficult to focus on what was happening, the longer the electrical current went at that level.

Fangs disappeared for a human face before pain forced the change back again. Scott and Jackson sure as hell better have gotten away.

Clint

"Hey, it's okay," Clint said to Allison in a soothing tone. Focusing on her was easier than looking at Derek right now. "I know this guy, he's really strong. And I'm sure Kate has a reason for having him here besides us watching him die." Right Kate?

Allison

Hey, Allison didn't want to watch anyone die! "What is he?"

Kate

Kate oh so kindly turned the power down, sighing at Allison's reaction. At least she was asking questions. "Shape–shifter. Lycan. Loup Garou. Werewolf. To me?"

She leaned in, grabbing Derek's chin to give it a little shake. "He's just another dumb animal. The big bad wolf," she said with a snort. "Clint knows."

Clint

"He's dangerous," Clint said, although he didn't consider Derek to be dumb. "People I care about don't seem to understand that, but he is. There are others like him, but--" But hey, maybe he shouldn't say that in front of Kate. Never let it be said that Clint didn't have the occasional good idea. "He's not a good person."

Allison

"It was him at the high school and all the other animal attacks?" Allison asked, finding a little courage now that she had a source to place her fear on instead of some nameless thing.

Kate

Kate grinned again now that they were getting into the flow of things. Good to see there were some people who could recognize trouble when they saw it.

"There's actually three of them," she said, giving Clint a sharp look in case he had something to share with the rest of the class. "Another younger one like him called a Beta, and then there's the Alpha. Alpha's the pack leader. Bigger, stronger, nastier. Those–-are the real ugly motherfuckers."

Clint

"I would have figured him for the Alpha," Clint said with a nod towards Derek. Take that as a compliment, oh shirtless wonder. "He seems to be experienced."

Kate

"Derek?" Kate had to laugh at that. "Oh, sweetheart, no."

It was probably a good thing neither of them realized just what the house they were in meant to poor, little Derek.

"He doesn't have the brains for that. Can't quite live up to the family name."

Allison

"The family name," Allison repeated. "Is that what this is? This is what we do? Were my parents ever going to tell me?"

Clint

Ah, parental secrets. This was when being an orphan was kind of a blessing. "When you were old enough, I'm sure," Clint said, totally not sure at all. "This has to be a lot to take in."

Kate

Kate nodded along with what Clint said, walking toward Allison to send her on home with this knowledge in hand. "They don't know what you have," she assured Allison soothingly. "They see their little girl. Not the powerful woman everyone else can see. And this? This is your chance to show it to them."

Allison

"How?"

Kate

"Go to school, do your homework. Go to the winter formal tomorrow night. Be a normal teenage girl who doesn't know anything," Kate said. "Trust us to get everything ready for the next part."

That's right, you're a part of this now, Clint.

Kate

Boy, it was a good thing Clint had some experience being part of a group of crazy people!

"We'll take care of things, don't worry," he said. Luckily, faking confidence was also part of his skill set.

Kate

"You're going to help us catch the second Beta," Kate said with a grin. Since it was probably right about your age, Allison.
